CMA Alert reports that the Physical Therapy (PT) Board of California has agreed to delay the conclusion of its investigations into what the board calls "illegal employment" arrangements between physical therapists and other healthcare providers. The board had previously permitted the offering of physical therapy services by medical, podiatric, and chiropractic corporations. However, in a decision last year the board declared that beginning Nov. 3, 2010, it would enforce a Legislative Counsel opinion, arguing that physical therapists cannot be employed by any professional corporation, except those owned by physical therapists or naturopaths. The California Medical Association states that it is working through various channels to prevent the PT board from completing its disciplinary actions.
